Museum Mum's FREE summer holiday museum activity calendar

Just last week, a plea went out over my local facebook parenting page ‘I have a dilemma.. 6 weeks hols with no cash for days out at all. Any free days out ideas?’ I’m sure this echoes with lots of parents – six weeks can seem like a VERY long time, especially when money is in short supply. Parks are great – but not every day, and certainly not if the weather is unkind.

Always eager to help, I’ve rounded up a list of free museum family events happening in London over the summer holidays – with no entrance or event charges. I’ve checked the websites of over 75 places and emailed a couple of dozen to find out what you can do with the nippers – for nowt. So all you have to sort out is transport and (a packed) lunch.
In fact, it’s better than a list as I’ve created a free timetable of all of these fun things – which you can view here!

Listings start from Thursday 24 July and run until Sunday 31 August, with a few outside these dates.
It’s a google calendar – so you can easily copy any events that interest you to your own diary. If you want to search the events by keyword or museum, click here to visit the calendar in google.  Nifty, huh?
You’ll notice that there is something free going on every day in the holidays – with up to 40 things a day you might find it hard to choose what to do!
Consider this timetable my pre-baby gift to you all. I’ve spent a bit of time on this so I’d like to know if it was worth the effort! Please comment below – let me know what you think of it, or what you got up to.
Any errors I blame entirely to lack of sleep in this final, seemingly endless, stage of pregnancy. Wherever possible I’ve added the URL of the original listing so please check before you head out. I’m still waiting for some responses, so will update as information comes in. If you’re a museum with a free activity that hasn’t been listed, drop me a line!
For all you non-Londoners, I hope this inspires you to contact your local museums and see what they are up to.
Don’t forget you can follow this blog – click on the brown cog on the top right hand side of this blog and enter your email to get automatic updates.
Happy holidays everyone!

You. Are. AWESOME. Although don’t get big-headed, so is Everything (according to The Lego Movie, at least).

PS no spoilers on the Lego movie please, I had to look after the toddler whilst museum dad and the tweenager got to watch it (and sing the song for weeks afterwards, just to remind me!). Sigh!
